Now in its fifteenth (15) year the Nett Lake Head Start Program, on the Bois Fort Reservation in Minnesota, is teaching children to speak the language. Karen Drift and her husband Lester are sharing their knowledge.
Karen has spent the better part of her adult life working with children and is taking her fluency in the language to teach the future generations. To read more about the work Karen is doing with the children visit the Bois Fort Internet site and read their
May 2006 newsletter. You will find an article outlining her work on page nine of their monthly newletter.
The document listed above is a pdf document so be sure that you have Acrobat Reader installed on your computer.
Anishinaabemodaa.com had the pleasure of speaking with Karen and Lester in early 2006. Their message is an inspiring one and we are sure their work is helping to preserve our way of life.
